About the Book
a Texas cowboy’s life in poetry
by Ray A. Twist
This book is a good one for that long wait in the doctor’s office or any other place where relaxing is important.
~ The Kingsville Writer’s Network.
An authentic version of a cowboy’s life. Family, military, farming and ranching, hard times and good times, all aspects of Mother Nature, and being in tune with life. Something for everyone.
The Poetry Café of Kingsville, moderator and poet, Natalia Ridener, was introduced to Mr. Ray A. Twist’s work in 2012. 3000 poems was an incredible collection and she was pleased to read the cowboy poetry many times to her appreciative audiences at The Poetry Café meetings and at nursing homes, in Kingsville. The poems are good and need to “get out there” she declared. In 2013 she helped get Views from the Saddle a Texas cowboy’s life in poetry, published for the first time.
About the Author
This year in 2013, he is publishing selections from his vast collection of over 3,000 poems, in Vol I and Vol II of Views from the Saddle a Texas cowboy’s life in poetry.
He was married 64 years to Annie Twist, who was the love of his life, and number one fan of his poetry. Annie saw her last sunset in March of 2011. Ray is an Army WWII veteran, who was in charge of a tank command. Some of his poetry reflects the many emotions and feelings brought on by a war. In the military he also enjoyed long distance running and boxing.
He was a farm hand early in his life, picking cotton, working cattle and horses. In that he is very knowledgeable. Ray owned a ranch next to the King Ranch, for many years, later selling his herd to them.
He retired from Celanese, in 1984, receiving praise and honorable mention, for his work ethics, in instrumentation and automation. After he retired, he began writing poetry, leaving poems for grandchildren before leaving for school, then writing randomly, for relaxation. Memories of childhood, love of Texas and country, nature’s beauty, people he remembered, cowboy life, and God’s influence in our lives, are subjects found throughout his selections in this Volume I of his collection of poetry.
