About the Book

The author is known throughout the world for his daring exploits in the world of sailing.

This book gives us a glimpse of his memoirs and experiences that make crossing the Atlantic Ocean in a "18 foot boat seem easy".

With a British sense of humor, he tells us his early memories of home, of private schools and the second World War, when he served in the British Expeditionary Force in France and commanded an anti aircraft site with 100 men and 100 women defending London against German bombers.

Then a notice said:

" VOLUNTEERS ARE URGENTLY NEEDED TO DROP ALONE BY PARACHUTE BEHIND THE ENEMY LINES."

So he volunteered and went through Spy School, learning Burglary, Forgery, knife fighting and other useful tools and techniques.

His work in German occupied France for the Special Executive was "Top Secret" and could not be told for 50 years until he wrote "Things I Remember".

He then joined Force 136 in Ceylon (now Sri Lanka) and was preparing to parachute into Singapore when the atom bombs were dropped and the war ended.
