Laura Gentile opened the door of her two-story house in Bayside, Queens, but left the screen door closed. "Gas man, Mrs. Gentile." "What the problem, young man?" 'There's a reported gas rupture in the neighborhood and we're checking each house for possible leaks." "O.K., come in, but you'll have to hurry. I haven't finished breakfast." "It will only take a few minutes. Could you please close the door, Mrs. Gentile, to avoid any drafts from impeding my work? "Sure, sure," the sixty-seven year old unsuspecting widow said. "The kitchen is that way." "Thank you, Mrs. Gentile," Billy Bonner said politely, following her into the kitchen. "You know they don't make things the way they used to any more," complained Laura. "Can I trouble you for a glass ofwater, Mrs. Gentile?" "Oh certainly, young man." Laura took a glass from the dish drainer while turning on the cold water her back to the marauding killer. Billy Bonner bent down and took the wire garrote from his bag. He jumped up when the telephone rang and almost dropped his weapon of death. "Hello. Who is this please? Laura Gentile asked. "The gas company? Oh, one of your men is already here looking for leaks. Do you want to talk to him? Here, they want to talk to you," as she handed her killer the phone. "Hello. Yes, I've checked for possible leaks and we have no problem," Billy replied, hanging up the phone. Billy knew he had little time left. The gas company employee sounded suspicious. Maybe the police were on their way? Laura smiled at Billy as she handed him the glass of water. Billy smiled back, then said,"what big eyes you have Mrs. Gentile as he knew they would be the last words Laura Gentile would ever hear.

The seeds of a killer are sown as Billy Bonner suffers torture at the hands of his father and two older brothers on the family farm in Iowa. He commits his first two acts of murder when he is just twelve years old, and he spends the rest of his life avenging the abuse his family perpetrated on him.
Forty-two-year-old Nick Powers, a seventeen-year veteran of the New York City Police Department, is assigned to investigate a special case. A serial killer is on the loose in New York City. Targeting victims over the age of sixty, this murderer disguises himself as a charming deliveryman, policeman, or priest. After gaining entrance to the victims’ homes, he hangs the women by their ankles while they bleed to death, and then he removes their eyes. The notes left at the scenes read: “She should have seen.”
Powers vows to catch this diabolical killer who has successfully eluded twenty police departments for twenty years. But the chase becomes personal when the killer contacts Powers and threatens to harm his family
About the Author
Bob Arnone grew up on Manhattan’s east side. He earned a bachelor’s degree from St. John’s University in 1963 and his master’s degree in 1968. Arnone and his wife, Patricia, have four daughters and ten grandchildren.
