“Today, we will learn the pretzel and the tunnel,” said Ms. Bailanda. “What a funny name for a dance,” said David, holding Englisha’s waist. Englisha could barely speak because heat was rushing through her body. Truthfully, Englisha had never been so physically near to a guy. “Are you all right?” asked David. “Oh … me? Just fine,” responded Englisha. Englisha felt like she would just faint at any minute. “Now, girls, put your hands on your partner’s neck,” directed Ms. Bailanda. Englisha hesitated but then got the courage. “His hands should be on your waist, and your hands should be on his neck,” said Ms. Bailanda. “This is a perfect position for a kiss,” said David. “What?” Englisha asked. “You know what a kiss is, right?” “Duh,” Englisha said, laughing nervously. Englisha didn’t speak again for the rest of the period; she tried to focus on the dance. She really didn’t want to be kissed in public. She would like to be kissed in a hotel room, where there would be no adults around. Englisha knew that she could never be kissed in her room because she shared a room with her brother. “You are so quiet. No hablas mucho,” David said. “When you come by my house tonight, we can speak more privately.”
