Life for people at Grove Street College ofen reflected the dangers found in the streets. Many members of the student body and staff wree from unstable enviornments and violence was a everyday occurrence in their lives, on and off the campus. "How many does thayt make now?" Kim was just informed a part time employee had been found murdered. "I don't know the exact number. Maybe sixteen or seventeen." Steven guessed. Big Man shook his head. "No. He's number eighteen. Ten of those were students and this last one makes eight part time employees." "Eighteen? Eighteen murders in just ove a year! Goddamn! Is someone targeting people from Grove?" Kim considered any attack on the college as a personal attack on him. "It might look that way, but I don't think so. Everyone in the street is a potential victim. It isn't just people from Grove Street. This neighborhood isn't the safest place in the world, but not all of the killingsare here. A couple of thme were in the east side and few were in Berkeley and Emeryville. These eighteen are just a small part of the total murders in the city." "Well, at least all of the killings are taking place off campus. Maybe people are safer here than in the street." But he was mistaken. Violence was a part of life at Grove Street College. No one was exempt. This was made clear when students attacked an instructor in his classroom.

About the Book
In the early 1970's a special group of people from the economically depressed area in the city, called the Flatland, forced the authorities to establish a "People's College." They gave several years of their lives tomake Grove Street College a reality. Some died in the effort.
The only person who was willing to take the job as the college's president was a Korean-American, considered by many to be unsuited to be a college president. He was at war with the establishement and had been fired from three of his previous jobs. He did not fit the image of an ideal college president. Supported by a band of like minded rebels, he was determined to make the college a viable institution.
While the "People's College" was struggling to stay alive, another group, called the Freedom Army, was being formed. The founder of the Freedom Army was a product of the state prison system. His avowed mission was to fight the modern "White Plantation Owners" in America and free the Black people from slavery. To achieve his goal, he recruited assassins to punish his enemies. The president of Grove Street College had been selected as one of his enemies and was targeted for assassination.
About the Author
Young Park spent twenty-five years in education and was the president of a community college. In the past thirty years, he has traveled throughout the world as a business consultant. His first publication is about life as a Korean-American, THE LIFE AND TIMES OF A HYPHENATED AMERICAN. Park has just completed his third publication, KOREA AND THE IMPERIALISTS.
