The beginning is always a difficult thing, and so it was for Thistle Brae, the youngest ordained Deacon from the Isle of Gales. What was supposed to be a simple missionary project soon turns into a dangerous ordeal as cleric's ship is blown hundreds of miles off course, only to make landfall in a remote desert town.
His missionary quest soon turns into an investigation into reports of slavery and witchcraft out in the Great Western Desert. The constable of Deserton begs the missionary and his companion protector to solve the mystery of why so many of Deserton’s inhabitants disappear with the coming of every new moon.
The desert has dangers no Galen missionary has ever faced, least of all the warring nomadic clans, fear of outlanders, and an empty city where all who lived were slaughtered thirty years ago. The young deacon must become the first missionary to have the courage and faith to meet these challenges and to defeat the Reven Sisterhood, the witches of the western sands. And will he solve the secret of a genocide that left a city barren?
About the Author
Christopher Todd was born and raised in Pennsylvania, but now lives in Baltimore with his partner of three years. A Christian who happens to be openly gay, he is also a hand bell ringer in the Episcopal Church, and attributes his gift of writing to the glory of God.
