Unable to cope with the difficult responsibility of step parenting, Peter and Carol flee the emotional turmoil that has come to a boil with their families and each other.

The couple, already struggling with basic and serious incompatibilities, believe they can salvage their marriage in a far state.

Weary of battling with in-laws who stubbornly refuse to compromise on issues surrounding her stepson, Carol issues an ultimatum to Peter that they should move away or end the marriage. A reluctant Peter, with a heavy heart, agrees to leave.

The two pack up and leave their home state of North Carolina and go to New Mexico where they confront an unfamiliar geographical and cultural terrain. Here they are confronted with some new and very unexpected problems.

Their stay in New Mexico ends in a startling and unimagined way.
