About the Author

Sherry Malunat visited Germany several times to interview the family members of Alex Herman. She recorded the detailed events of Alex’s family during World War II over a five-year period. She speaks German and has a love for the German people. She remembers the time when in 1990 her and Alex took the train back to Bad Suderode where he grew up. The wall had just come down, she said it was like stepping back in time where nothing was built back up after the war and there were still food shortages. Sherry writes this book to share the stories of her late husband, so that people would know the truth about what young mothers and children of Germany went through during World War II and living under communism.
