About the Book

1983. The world seems to be on fire as tragedy strikes across the globe. The 1983 United States embassy bombing in Beirut kills 63 people. A car bombing in Pretoria, South Africa, kills 19 people. The bomb had been planted by members of Umkhonto we Sizwe, a military wing of the African National Congress. Iranian teenager Mona Mahmudnizhad and nine other women are hanged because they are members of the Baháʼí Faith. The Black July anti-Tamil riots begin in Sri Lanka, killing between 400 and 3,000 Sri Lankan Tamils and Hill-country Tamils. Korean Air Lines Flight 007 is shot down by Soviet Union Air Force Su-15 Flagon pilot Major Gennadi Osipovich near Moneron Island when the commercial aircraft enters Soviet airspace. All 269 on board are killed. The Soviet Union admits to shooting down the plane, stating that the pilots did not know it was a civilian aircraft when it violated Soviet airspace (Sure. Right.). United States troops invade Grenada. Two Spanish passenger planes collide on the foggy runway at a Madrid airport, killing 90 people. In coastal Portland, Maine several unusual deaths have occurred that may be linked although no pattern between them has appeared. The police investigate and find clues courtesy of a young woman who has visions and premonitions, some of which relate to the deaths and some of which are associated with world events that have no connection with her. As the police gradually acknowledge her abilities and work the associated clues, a sinister presence exerts itself and thrusts its insidious tentacles into a close-knit group of people trying to uncover the villain. The band of people determined to find the killer and bring them to justice veers off in different directions and leads to the uncovering of a shocking trail of death and evil that has been claiming victims for over a quarter century. After a particularly violent and close-to-home crime the suspect vanishes, leaving no trace. The crime changes the lives of multiple strong, courageous people that commit to bringing the killer to justice. Meanwhile, the killer engages in a horrific exercise in cruelty and viciousness that brings back memories of horror to their victim. They are unaware that a unique Portland group bands together with the police to share investigations, theories, and clues to hunt them down and exact justice. The hunt climaxes in a desperate journey to find the last victim before the killer finalizes their plan and disappears. Will justice prevail, or will this killer subvert all attempts at capture and escape to continue their evil acts?
