About the Book

Gary Wright looks back at growing up in an East Texas town and his ascent to business success as a black man in this autobiography.
He describes how he and his two brothers often explored the land his great grandparents purchased in the late 1800s and early 1900s for less than a dollar an acre – to growing up in a household where his parents seemed to have verbal altercations.
In looking back at his life, he shares powerful lessons, such as:
• Oftentimes you think things are not so great in your own life until you witness what others go through.
• Revisiting childhood memories can set your trajectory for your future.
• Find and spend time doing the things that you love with people you love.

He also shares some wisdom from his dad, who even with his shortcomings, taught him about life as a black man and marriage. Eventually, he witnessed his dad mature and embrace his mother with more love and kindness before her sudden death in 1999.

Join the author as he reaches back as far back as he can remember to share lessons on how to build a successful life.

About the Author

My life has been filled with twists, turns, hurdles. If I had to write my own epitaph, what would I say about myself? What might others say of me? Maybe at my funeral someone might stand and say, “You know, Gary gave his all to me as a friend and most certainly his unconditional love to his children.” Someone might say that one day I helped him find a job, or provided food and/or clothes for his family. Some lady, I can only hope, will stand and say from the bottom of her heart that she loved me. Some people might say that I was a fool for caring so much about trying to help others when I could hardly at times help myself. When all is said and done, hopefully something I did, little as it may have seemed to me, made a difference in someone else’s life. My life has been filled with those twists, turns, hurdles, and detours. Life hasn’t always dealt me a great hand of cards to play with; I just learned to play with the hand I received. Always give your best or don’t give at all.
