John Carter has lived a life rooted deep in emotion, faith, and hope. At each moment,
when there was joy, when there were times of testing and trials, when there were times of
aloneness and sadness, writing poetry and telling short stories helped him articulate how
those circumstances affected him.
In a second collection of poems and other writings, John lyrically explores such diverse topics
as love, faith, and his military experiences while reflecting on the lovely scents surrounding a
dogwood garden, scuffed boots and stories told from an empty cartridge shell, the grace and
beauty of a loving wife, a lame man made whole through Christ, a little piece of driftwood
traveling through raging waters to its potential, and much more. Included are several short
tales as well as drawings and photos that help tell his unique story.

veteran’s heart to encourage others to view all life experiences as for the greater good.

About the Author

Husband, writer, and Veteran, John grew up in the foothills of the North Georgia Mountains. He has seen some difficult times, some good times, and some great times. His faith and memories are cherished. He has written many poems and stories relating his experiences. He has served in such places as Oklahoma, Korea, Iraq, Florida, and Afghanistan. Recently, after his tenure in the military came to a close in 2018, he and his wife have settled in the Chattahoochee River Valley.
