About the Book
THE VA – A Veteran/Patient/Volunteer Memoir is a story that chronicles the very positive experiences of a veteran and his interactions with the VA as a disabled veteran, a patient in their healthcare system and as a volunteer. The VA gets a lot of negative press when things go wrong. But seldom do they get positive recognition for all of the things that go very, very right. The VA is far from perfect but overall it is extremely good. Our veterans deserve help with the dignity and respect they so honorably have earned. This book highlights the positive things about the VA which help our grateful veterans in many, many ways.
About the Author
Rick Butler was a paratrooper in Vietnam in 1968 with the 173d Airborne Brigade. He was actively involved in combat operations and often walked point – the lead soldier in combat maneuvers – the first in harms way. He also was involved in numerous (40+) combat assaults where gunships strafe suspected enemy positions followed by Huey helicopters that swoop in and offload the paratroopers to engage the enemy. Rick has battled post traumatic stress (PTSD) throughout his life receiving numerous hours of psycho-therapy from the VA which has helped him immensely.
