About the Book

The book is a summons to the Church in North America to be humbly, truthfully and joyfully present in the world. It contains excerpts from sermons, speeches and other writings the author has given in the United States and Europe over several decades. It is a call to communities of faith to live out the truth the Church seeks to proclaim with words and actions that reflect the source of its life. It is about light present in darkness and the gift of discipleship in a time of confusion and disorder. The book includes stories, prayers and illustrations that may be helpful in bringing encouragement to pastors and also to members of the churches whose faith takes them to their knees in prayer and also into the wonder, promise and heartache of the times in which we all are living.

About the Author

Frederick Richard Trost is a pastor. His roots are in the Evangelical (Lutherand and Reformed) heritage of the United Church of Christ (USA). He has written widely about the Church's call to be present in society with discipleship that expresses a passionate commitment to issues of peace and social justice.
