About the Author

My name is Marie L. Cassagnol. I was born in Cayes, Haiti, south of Port-Au-Prince. I am a mother of two children and five adorable grandchildren: Brendan, Tristan, Zaylan, Kaydan, and Syra. In high school, I participated in the team championship of volleyball in 1969, chez les Soeurs de la Charité de Saint Louis. Growing up, I wanted to become a nun, mostly because I attended Catholic school. After I graduated high school, I attended Lycee Philippe Guerrier des Cayes. There I changed my mind. I looked outside the convent, and I got married. When I arrived in the United States, I didn’t feel passionate about the jobs I was doing. I went back to school. I attended Roxbury Community College, and I received my high school diploma. At the same college, I took some nursing courses. Family matters took a toll on me. I dropped out of college at the end of my second year. I attended a business school, where I earned a medical assistant diploma.
