“Because of his dia-bee-teez, my daddy has to take special medicine called insulin. He takes the insulin by giving himself a shot in the stomach five times every day. I push the button to give him the medicine sometimes. I don’t like shots. When I was little, I got four shots at the doctor’s office. I tried not to cry, but the last one hurt really bad, and I cried a little. Daddy never cries when he gets a shot.” Ruby tells the story of living with a parent with diabetes and challenges her family faces.

Tony Hakes lives in Iowa and enjoys spending time with his family, exploring the outdoors and motorcycling. This is his first book.
