About every three weeks or so I make a drive up to the Blue Ridge Mountains and check in with my Mom. Our family is greatly blessed to continue having Mom with us! Mom turned 89 years of age last week and she possesses amazing energy and agility for her age! I was with her yesterday and we played our usual game of Skip-Bo and then I took her out to one of her favorite restaurants for a luncheon together. In the course of our lunch conversation she confided how she was slowing down. In almost the very same breath she told me that this particular week she had delivered meals on wheels three days (a thirty-six mile trek to 15 to 20 homes delivering hot meals); worked out at an exercise center two days; swept out her garage and sidewalk and pulled some weeds in her flower garden; did a load of laundry; got in the neighbor's mail while they were on vacation; and, took her "aged" friend out to eat! Well, I suppose "slowing down" is a relative term....at least it seems so with my relatives!

About the Book
MICHAEL’S MUSINGS consists of blog entries written by Pastor Michael Kurtz over the course of nearly five and one-half years. Each blog provides a daily reading on a wide variety of topics ranging from social issues to sabbath time, and worship service themes to family experiences. Following each web log are provided suggested scripture readings, a reflection statement to consider, and a prayer to offer, all related to the theme and content of the daily writing.
About the Author
Rev. Michael Kurtz serves as a United Methodist pastor in the Western North Carolina Conference. Michael received his associate degree from Lees-McRae College, a bachelor’s degree from Eastern Mennonite University, a master’s of divinity from Duke University, and a doctor of ministry from Palmer University. Michael has served as pastor of five different United Methodist congregations over the course of more than thirty years of ordained ministry. He has previously published several articles and two other books, LESSONS FROM A CHRISTMAS TREE FARM and CROSSINGS: Memoirs of a Mountain Medical Doctor. He and his wife, Karen - also a United Methodist pastor - have two grown children and one grandchild. Michael and Karen reside in the western region of North Carolina.
