wind music
a slow breeze stirs
the waters of nauset marsh
sending shallow ripples to wash
the muddy shore
the tall marsh grasses sway
to this easy breeze
bending dancing a omantic tango
reeds rolling they brush each other in
metered measure of tidal tempo
as a family of ducks
pushed along
by winds gentle power
quack splatter
slide the water duck heads in a
vaudeville act of splashy comedy
a flock of seagulls
glide the breeze dancing a
soaring ballet flowing with great audacity
dropping diving delighting
they honk bark caw in the
gentle westerly winds
the beach breeze in my
face brushes my ears
passing into the
horizon as the sun begins
its fiery decent into
the darkened marsh

About the Book
Senator is back with the third in his trilogy of seaside poetry. Soft Landings Finale frames a panorama of the natural world that is both sweeping and yet intensely personal in scope. Senator’s deft pen draws creatures from their nesting places and follows them into their magnificent surroundings. We dive with cormorants and flit with minnows. About the Author
Mel Senator is the author of Catskill Summers (2000), Reflections in Haiku (2006), Soft Landings in Poetry (2009) and Soft Landings in Poetry 2 (2011). He is an adjunct professor of American history and teacher education. Mr. Senator and his wife, Shelly, enjoy hiking and biking the shores and marshes along the Atlantic and Pacific oceans. They spend summers at their home on Cape Cod near the National Seashore.
