I feel delighted to come up with a book that unveils the fact that we live in a dangerous world. When we have the awareness of this simple fact, it becomes easy for us to find the best approach to life. It’s also important to know that sometimes what we perceive as being dangerous is not actually dangerous. But just for the mere fact that we are humans, we tend to run away from anything called “DANGER.”

From the public point of view, prison is dangerous, either as a prisoner or as a prison staff. When a loved one goes to prison, it becomes a concern to the family members because you never can tell what the outcome will be. When one gets a job in a prison, family members get worried due to fear of the unknown. You not only worry about assaults from physical attacks, but you also worry about assaults from different kinds of diseases prevailing in the prison environment. 

In so doing, some people let the fear of danger deter them from having a rewarding career. I keep asking this question; “If we all avoid those dangerously perceived jobs, tell me, who will do them?” Therefore, I tell you to “face your fear and defeat your worries.”

In today’s world, the youths don’t want to hear how you suffered to get to where you are. They just want to seek the easiest way to success. If you have not worked for United Parcel Service (UPS) or FedEx, you probably would not be able to understand what hard (manual) labor means. I have been there and have done that. Therefore, I stand in a better position to tell the story. 

When a Nigerian immigrant, Zeribe Ezeanuna wrote a very strong petition/article on the topic he called “Modern Day Slavery,” he did it with his whole heart, believing that justice has to prevail in the United States in favor of UPS employees, who are arguably used as slaves. 

When you work at the loader and sorter position for UPS or FedEx, you are expected to load and unload trucks from the heavy-duty-conveying machines that revolve round the clock – I mean it rolls nonstop until the shift is over. You face a very strenuous exercise workout, which will leave you with little need or energy for any physical activity outside of work environment. There is no break, and you cannot do it for eight hours. Maximum work hour is four – otherwise you break apart.

On this note, try to give some kind of credit to whomever that has done this type of jobs for five, ten, or fifteen years. It’s not easy. Considering the high turnover (of 150%) of UPS employees, if you last more than six months on this job, you are one of those determined individuals, who would rather take a risk to achieve success in this dangerous world. It’s indeed a mark of commitment and perseverance. 

On the other hand, UPS, FedEx, Prison jobs, Police, firefighter, coal miners, military services, and many more, have the best benefits in the world; but you have to earn it. Be it long term or short term, financial or medical – you can’t ask for anything better after you have courageously paid your dues of persevering in the mist of unconducive work environment.  

I have noticed that those who survive in a dangerous work environment are the ones who succeed more in life. This is why we should not overlook the statement that “hard way is the only way.” Those dangers of the world make you stronger as a person. The older you get, the more dangerous decisions you make. But do not let the dangerous challenges of life obstruct your vision as you strive to have a quality life.
