About the Author
Howard E. Covington Jr. is an award-winning journalist and author of history and biography. Among his twenty-four books are Favored By Fortune: George W. Watts and the Hills of Durham (winner of the N.C. Literary and Historical Association’s 2004 award for non-fiction), Lady on the Hill: How Biltmore Estate Became an American Icon, and Terry Sanford: Politics, Progress & Outrageous Ambition (co-authored with Marion A. Ellis). He is a native of North Carolina and with his wife, Gloria, has been a resident of Greensboro since 1980.
