About the Author

Sandra Angelle was born in Southeast Texas, August 1940. She currently resides in Arizona where she and her husband have raised 7 children and several grandchildren for over 50 years. Sandra is an avid reader, lover of stories, and has been writing and telling stories all of her life. While she is grateful for her life in Arizona, Texas will always be “home” in her heart.

Thank you, Sandy, for these precious, sweetened memories – gratefully looking back, triumphantly having accomplished, and still joyfully looking forward – a life well lived: loving God; loving Neighbor. An 1865 poem taught us the power of Motherhood: “The Hand that rocks the cradle rules the world”; and contemporary experts agree that the Family is the essential building block of Society. Yet, our’s was the era when “just a housewife” began to be heard. Though Sandy rejoiced with her peers, who were becoming business and professional women, with no doubt nor hesitation, Sandy followed in her wonderful Mother’s footsteps: “Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.” Sandy chose FIRST to be Wife and Mother – and “all else” has been added, over 60+ years. Her mother was right to describe her as “the one with the most potential” – which has been greatly realized, and yet, is still in development. Anyone who ever knew Sandy and/or husband Phillip, is likely to find one’s name in this book. First lesson in loving thy Neighbor: learn the name, how to spell it, and remember. She did! She really, really did! (My sisters and I are named on page 67.) We both lived and churched in Bridge City. We schooled in Bridge City and Port Arthur, TX, but not always at the same time. A vivid memory is of tall, red-headed Sandy, standing beside her beautiful blue bicycle on our shell driveway. I was in awe of her having had the strength and courage to ride alone, crossing Highway 87, from her house (two-story) to our house (1-1/2 story). (I was grown, before I understood the difference, since we both had a 2nd floor.) We were honored, that she made that hazardous trip to visit us on roads that, if not yet black-topped, were still dirt and mud. Her book has filled in so many blanks, and connected so many dots, for me: people, places, events, and time-lines, for our shared Texas past. I found “the rest of the story” for so many stories, for which I had only pieces. The Carruth-Angelle Family’s growth and travel adventures, Phillip’s Arizona employment with changing company names, Sandy’s church, business and on-stage ventures – all create a picture of our growing America, with its cultural, residential and corporate developments, over the decades. How wonderful to have a written record of such a remarkable family: from Sandy’s grandparents, to her own grand children, and how they loved and helped each other, and their many friends, along the way. On the back of the book is an elegant picture of Sandy – with a beautiful Mary Kay-Julie Andrews look. Such an enjoyable book, beautifully written, highly recommended! – for those who knew this family and those who want a picture of a happy, godly family – with our changing America in the background.
