A Little Existence

All I can hear is the sound of my best friends suffering as quietly as they can. Two of them had been shot and the rest of us had almost been beaten to death. We were dragging each other by our collars and damp shirts. We had just barely escaped onto the train tracks with a burning building behind us calling the echoed sirens. We just kept running, holding on to each other. We had been set up by someone we used to trust.
In my mind I go back a few months when we were all a family, him and I were brothers. We were leaving a bar, a bar that the rest of the town had heard countless stories about, and a woman was watching me leave. I was with everybody, but she was only looking at me. From the distance I could see the concern, she was wondering why somebody at my age was hanging around with a group of adults showing off their money with clothes and jewelry, and all getting into their nice cars. The entire town was watching us and they knew who we were, and they knew what we were doing. We kept this dying town alive, but by the end, it fell. My name is Alex, and in one year, I am going to die.
