God Has No Blind Alleys

When the summer was over, and everyone had left, we returned to our home in Chapleau, where I carried on with the bricklaying at the front of our house. It had been brought to a halt when the summer’s activities were upon us. As I continued working at the brick, my mind drifted back to the number of cabins we were able to see constructed. And when all was over and bills paid, we still had $85.00 in our camp account. I was rejoicing in what had been accomplished.

Suddenly, it dawned upon me that I had not settled for the lumber I had picked up at the beginning of the summer. I knew that the amount we owed was far exceeding to what we had in the account. I quickly mentioned this to Verna and right away we wondered what we were going to do, so we prayed that the Lord would give us some direction. We wanted to be honourable in all that we did, especially in relation to the name of the camp that it maintain a good testimony as a Christian camp. Then, a peace seemed to settle over us concerning the matter. However, we both knew, I must go and settle in some way. This I did, and all the way out to Devon to see the gentleman, I wondered how to handle the shortfall. However, in His own peace-assuring way the Lord spoke to my heart saying, “This is my bill, not yours, I will look after it.” Peace settled in again.

Upon arriving at Devon, I presented the tally to the man, and said that I had come to settle our accounts. (Under my breath, I said, “I don’t know how. It will be at least $500.00.”). After looking at the tally, first off he said, “Instead of $90.00 a thousand board feet, I am only going to charge you only $30.00 per thousand.” That brought the bill to $175.00. (And then, while I was still trying to recover from the relief and shock.) He said, “Also I am going to give you a donation of $100.00, so, according to my calculation you owe me $75.00.”Upon hearing the reduced price of the lumber, and his donation of 100.00, my heart seemed to skip a beat, thinking, is this true what he is saying?

I sincerely thanked him, and at the same time a shiver went from the back of my neck and down my spine as I thrilled at the ways of the Lord. I wrote a cheque for $75.00, and went on my way rejoicing in the Sovereign ways of God. All was settled and we still were $10.00 to the good. What a great blessing it is to have the Lord speak peace to you, and to serve Him! We thought we had reached a blind alley, and not able to pay our bills, The Lord proved it was not so, for He has no blind alleys!
