The Clock Struck Greed

As we reached the base of the mountain we were hit by a sudden thunderstorm. Torrential rain was blowing down on us from the west so we started to look for any type of shelter in the brushwood. We found a few crevices in the rocks surrounding the mountain base and we crouched down in those that offered protection from the western driven rain. We all found shelter except for Payne. There was nothing that was big enough to hide him completely from the elements. He just turned his back to the rain and sat down and covered as much of him as he could with his jacket. We stayed hunkered down for at least a half an hour before we saw Billy outside in the rain pulling and pushing on Payne. He was saying something to him in a frantic voice that we didn’t understand. Payne finally moved and made his way over to the sanctuary that Sally and I were sharing. When he arrived he appeared to be at a loss for words. “What in the world is wrong with Billy?” I questioned. Payne’s response will always be remembered. “Billy says that he has found some dead people!”
