Life is replete with axioms; one of the most universal is that we will all experience trials and tribulations. Though they are unavoidable, we’re told in Scripture to “glory in tribulations, knowing that tribulation produces perseverance.” I’ve discovered that many of my greatest accomplishments have come after—or as a result of—a failure or hardship. It’s those experiences, and the attitude of not giving up, that have carried me through. So in faith I decided to begin recording my memories as I want my children and grandchildren to have knowledge of my experiences. It’s also my desire, if possible, to empower those around me. I want others to know that whatever they dream, wherever they journey, if they believe in themselves and persevere—even when doors might appear to be closed—if they trust the Lord, He will guide their every step. I say with great passion that I’m proud to be one of America’s sons. To me, serving our country in the Armed Forces means more than just buttoning up a uniform. To paraphrase one of America’s greatest generals, military service is about duty, honor, and country. Having grown up in a military family, having served our nation in uniform, and having served alongside America’s bravest men and women, I have the highest regard for all who serve in the United States Armed Forces—especially those who have given the ultimate sacrifice. That’s why I’ve chosen to donate all the proceeds from this book to the Wish for Our Heroes Foundation. Every soldier’s story is unique. This one is mine. What I offer you is the story of a young marine who, after transferring to the U.S. Navy, served aboard the USS John F. Kennedy, later in the Army as a young warrant officer who faced the challenges of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, and afterward served in Military Intelligence finding himself knee-deep within the Activity—America’s most secret Special Operations Team. Needless to say, the Lord has allowed me to fly a long way from a small town south of Indianapolis. My hope is that you will enjoy taking this journey with me.

About the Author
Mike Dean’s military career spans three branches (US Marines, US Navy, and US Army). He retired from the US Army as a chief warrant officer three. Mike has a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s certificate in government contracting. Currently Mike and his wife live in the Midwest, where they are active in their local church and community.
