The author got started in her own home based medical billing service by having a desire. Her desire to be able to spend time with her family, work her own hours, and make a living was all she ever dreamed of. Having the knowledge of working for a medical billing service and collection agency, she decided to write her own proposal. She put down on paper a process that she had in mind of how her business would work. She got in touch with my previous Orthopedic Surgeons, billing services, family, and friends, and asked them to critique her proposal. After all of their input, she made her final draft and put it on good quality paper. The author started gathering the office equipment and supplies that she knew she would need, and she envisioned herself as her own business owner. She always heard the phrase, “Act as if.” Therefore, she started dressing professional and made up patients, in order to practice billing and, “Acting as if.” Through many people telling her no, she finally received someone who told her yes. She made sure she did the very best job that she could and that Gastroenterologist referred her to his friends. His friends allowed her to bill for them and his friends referred her to more friends, and so on. Eventually, she was billing for 9 physicians from home. This business supported her family and herself for some time. The most rewarding parts that came from all of this, was that she never gave up and she soon prevailed.
