“Ok, thank you kind Sir.” With that, the two leave Susan to go to Steven’s car. The drive down the driveway is quiet. But while waiting for the tow truck to arrive, Christopher starts a conversation. “I couldn’t help but notice how much you were looking at my daughter while you were on the phone.’”
“Yes Sir “
“Well? Why is that?” Asks Christopher, already knowing the answer.
“Well as you would well know, Sir, she is extremely beautiful.”
“Yes, that’s right, she is beautiful, but she is also completely blind.”
“Yes, I know Sir.”
“And that doesn’t bother you?”
“What do you mean, Sir?”
“Well, I know what a man is thinking when he looks at a woman the way you were looking at my daughter. I’ve only ever looked at one woman that way and she became my wife and mother to my two beautiful daughters.”
“Sir, just what are you implying?”
“I’m not implying anything; I’m just asking does it bother you if she is blind?”
“No Sir, not at all.”
“Good.” Good. What does he mean by good wonders Steven? Is Mr Walker trying to get his daughter a man to date? The tow truck arrives and Steven hands over his keys. Christopher and Steven get into Christopher’s car and Steven knows this is going to be an interesting drive back to his place. Just as Steven suspected, the drive back to his place is full of questions.
“So, Steven, how old are you?”
“I’m thirty three.”
“I notice you don’t wear a ring, are you married?”
“No.”
“Any children, ex wife?”
“No Sir, never been married, never have had children.”
“Do you plan on marriage?”
“One day Sir, when I meet the right one and I fall in love.” Strange questions.
“So you’re single then?”
“At the moment, yes.”
“Umm. Work, what do you do for work?”
“I am a pilot, so I am away a lot, of course.”
“So why were you out our way?”
“I was going for a drive in the country to have a look.” Gee such personal questions
“A look at what exactly?”
“Just looking, thought I’d like to buy a house in the country, so just checking out this area.” Has this man ever heard of minding his own business?
“Umm.”
As Steven opens his door to exit the car, he is asked yet another question. “Steven, before you leave, would you like to come to our place for dinner Friday night?”
Hesitating to answer after the experience with this man, Steven thoughts turn to the beautiful Susan. “Only if Susan will be there sir, no offense!”
“No offence taken, see you at six pm sharp.”
“Ok Sir, thank you for the drive home,” Steven says as opening his wallet to offer some fuel money.
“Put that a way, it’s been my pleasure.”
I bet it has been with the interrogation I just received thinks Steven. The two men shake hands and with that Christopher drives off leaving Steven on the footpath. I’m amazed he didn’t want to inspect the house, Steven thinks to himself.
