"The earth had changed, and so did we," Devlak continued. "The great cities were in ruins. Hunger and violence ran rampant. Animals changed too. Some became extinct while others adapted. One animal, the badgercat is one that escaped their ships. It isn't native to earth."
"What's a badgercat?" Alison asked.
"Only the most vicious animal around," Barak said. "It's more vicious than a bear. We pointed the tracks of one to you earlier, remember?"
"Well, if they're that vicious, I hope to never meet one," Angela said. She remembered the huge tracks she'd seen in the sand earlier in the day. They had reminded her of cat tracks, but they were much larger, and the long claws had left huge marks, making the tracks appear even larger.
"Ever since the Great War, we've been in conflict with Ahriman," said Telek. "I hope one of you is indeed the Savior sent to destroy him."
