Soul to Sole

Throughout your life, you will try on many different types of shoes and you will actually choose to wear some of them. “Soul to Sole...The Views from the Shoes” presents a shoe analogy that inspires you to find the shoe that fits you. It encourages you to find the shoe that makes you feel comfortable. It moves you to find the shoe that supports the different seasons of your life. This introspective book takes you on a wonderful journey into the hearts and souls of several women, as they discuss some of their life experiences, which have made them into the women they are today. It provides strong emotions, as you ride on a rollercoaster of life. You experience the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. Initially, you embrace the perspectives of three women from three different generations: one from the Traditionalist Generation (1900 - 1945); one from the Baby Boomer Generation (1946 -1964); and one from the Millennial Generation (1981 – 2000). As the stories continue, you read about additional experiences from other women, who have traveled different roads. They share their “Views from the Shoes,” so that others can relate to and benefit from their encounters in life. The women in this book describe how they navigated the roads that led to their current paths and/or destinies. They share their mountain highs and their valley lows. They recognize their weaknesses and discover their strengths. This is a story that shows where love abounded, life unfolded; where determination persisted, success prevailed; where the distance was run, the victory was won…and through it all, they learned how to lean and depend on God. There is one male contributor, who writes, “Views from Polished Shoes.” His role is special, as he is husband, father, and son-in-law to Carolyn, Summer, and Lucille – the three main characters.

This book uses a shoe analogy to vividly describe the mindset and thought processes that girls and women may experience, as they go from baby booties to flats or from sandals to tennis shoes; from low boots to tall boots or from pumps to high heels and stilettos. It addresses the need for orthopedic shoes, which can give a stylish look, while also providing comfort.

As we choose to protect and cover our “souls” and our “soles,” we are knowingly or unknowingly, writing a chapter on our “Soul to Sole…The Views from the Shoes.” Part One of the book focuses on Lucille, who is currently 89 years old. She narrates her story to her daughter, who uses the vernacular spoken by Lucille. If it is perceived as grammatically incorrect by some, that’s ok because it is what it is. The time spent getting this information from Lucille proved to be quality time and it was a labor of love. It has taken quite some time to bring this work to fruition, but we think it is a blessing to all who contributed.
