Teachable Points is not intended to be an Academic Exercise. It was developed and presented in a “real world business environment.”
The intent is to manifest that we all have skills and knowledge – in managing - that are not only self-rewarding (self generated enthusiasm) but, when shared, can be rewarding to others and can improve their performance and the performance of an organization.
Teachable Points clearly demonstrate that when skills and knowledge are shared individually and collectively in a business environment, an organization’s competitive performance can be greatly enhanced.
So therefore, “What you learn you teach”. You share by cascading what you have experienced and learned to all those around you and you also position yourself to learn from the experience of those around you. Learn from the outside (from others) – Teach from the inside (your knowledge and skills learned)
In retrospect, Teachable Points was put together (or written) as more of a conversation with others about lessons learned. The roundtable discussions were a natural fit for what I was trying to accomplish with the program. But I think when the pages are read; lessons learned are still shared, because it is still experience learning expressed in a written form. So I think turning Teachable Points into a Management Training Tool (MTT) has tremendous potential.

About the Author
Reginald Walter Sykes Sr. earned a degree in business from Southern University in New Orleans, and is a Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, proudly served in Vietnam in 1967-‘68 with H-Troop 17th Armored Cavalry, and is now retired after nearly thirty-nine years of supervisory and management experience in the water transportation industry. Sykes and his wife, JoAnne, have five children. He lives in Savannah, Georgia.
