Rob moved forward, pushing against the wind. He held his breath and dived head first. The jolt on his shoulders as the parachute jerked open caused him to cry out. He grasped the shrouds and fixed his eyes on the ground. All he could see was green. Where was the drop site? In seconds he hit the treetop, crashing through its branches, entangled in his chute. Taking a deep breath, he shifted his feet onto a sturdy branch, and with one hand he gripped another branch above his head. With the other hand he loosened the cords wrapped around his shoulders. Hearing voices below, he peered down at the ground through the thick canopy of leaves. Viet Minh guerrillas or Japs? He reached for his Colt .45.

About the Book
As World War II with Germany and Japan ends, the Cold War with Soviet Russia begins, and both U.S. and Russia stockpile atomic bombs. This is a story about the effects of anti-Communist hysteria and McCarthyism on three American world war heroes. Rob, with OSS, who parachuted into occupied territory in both France and Indochina, and who met Ho Chi Minh; Chantal, a courier for the French resistance, who guided downed airmen to Spain; and Mike, one of the pilots she saved from Nazi arrest. In Washington D.C. after the war, the lives of these three heroes become hopelessly entangled as the Red Scare continues.
About the Author
Joyce Webb Hahn, a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, is a writer, photographer and former teacher. She has published the novels, California Yankee Under Three Flags, Viva Espaňa, Defeat, Resist and Rescue. Her photographs have been exhibited in Paris, Stanford, Guatemala and San Francisco. She and her husband live in Carmel Highlands, California.
