Letters to Our Sons

This book is not about mothers raising sons alone, but the role of mothers helping to equip their sons to be men of character. Society expresses the importance of a father and son relationship but have we really given thought to how vital a mother and son relationship is to our communities and family success? This book will strike a prevailing cord for readers because it’s a major issue, especially given that society has always focused on how important a fathers role is in his son’s life. In a time of increased violence, drugs, high teenage suicides and pregnancies, our boys are most at risk. More and more are lacking a sense of purpose, struggling at school, awkward in relationships, vulnerable to alcohol and drug abuse, and in danger of being the victims, as well as the perpetrators, of violent crime, physical and sexual abuse. By the age of fifteen, three times as many boys as girls are likely to die from many causes combined – but most especially from accidents, violence and suicide. (Center of Disease Control - CDC). So with this being said it is critical that the mothers and fathers play a critical role in the development of sons. A mother’s role in raising their sons is very critical. The fathers role, is definitely important and needed more and more, but there is something unique about what the mother offers in the raising of her sons since she birthed him. I believe the mother son relationship will definitely determine how he treats women. Raising boys can be challenging and incredibly rewarding. If you are married or a single parent there is a tremendous impact that the mother makes on their sons life. As the mother of a son, I know that many mothers have questions frustrations and worries, specifically related to raising up strong confident young men. As a caring parent, we want to give our boys our very best without enabling them. We want to grow up our boys to be independent, courageous and strong, yet caring, compassionate and be responsible for themselves, their families and the world. Parents and experts alike agree that raising a son presents its unique own sets of challenges and excitements. If you're a single mother raising boys, you may be concerned about how to raise up a strong, young men without a father figure.
