TIREDNESS Walls up between us Even though It is only nudeness Two layers thick Keeping us apart. Tossed, We turn together As if On a sunbather’s schedule, Afraid to lie Too long on one side. We wake In one skin, Smoother than cool silk, Warmer than eider down, Gliding among Each other’s surfaces. BOSTON BUS STOP It is one of those Clock-wound mornings, With too much night Left in it. Rain on the wind- Shield drumming, and Wiper blades accompanying My dreams. I almost forget Where I’m going. An old man stands At the bus stop, His wet skin Clings To my bones.

About the Author
Dr. Ardith Hoff grew up on a dairy farm in Southwestern Wisconsin, the youngest of six children. She is the widow of Dr. Darrel Hoff , an author and retired professor of astronomy and science education. She has two grown children and two grandchildren. She has taught in the arts at every level, from kindergarten-graduate school. She has been writing poetry for nearly forty years. Her poems have been published by: The University of Northern Iowa, The Iowa Poetry Association, World of Poetry Press, Sparrowgrass Poetry Forum Inc., and the World Poetry Movement.
