When Dayton rose that evening he knew something was different, he felt a change inside of him. From tonight he was about to embark on an important journey. He knew this day would come eventually and he greeted it with mixed emotions. Feelings of dread along with feelings of anticipation coursed through his veins, his blood seemed to be on fire. He remembered with great sorrow his friend Kaspir, who had died over twenty years ago. Because Dayton had not gone through the ‘Transcendence Ritual’ he had not allowed to attend. And from all accounts it had been a disaster. His friend had lived only a few days after bringing his Solelil to the temple. There had been just enough time to return her back to her previous life and seek his final resting place, before entering the black.
The realisation set in that tonight was his time to seek out his other half, his ‘Solelil’ (his soul mate). For the last ten years he had dreamt of her. What she might look like, what colour was her hair, her eyes, the feel of her skin. His mind began to wander again. Dayton berated himself. He had no more time for fantasies, now the time was at hand. Tonight he would begin to seek her out. He would make sure that he would not make the same as mistakes his friend had done all those years ago. It was realised that the mesh had been too weak, the connections were not reinforced enough. It had broken at a crucial part in the ritual and both of them had suffered, but in different ways. His friend lost his life and his friend’s Solelil would have a half life, never really being fulfilled. She would always know that there was something missing from her life, but never really knowing what, exactly.
Dayton dressed himself in his favourite clothes, tight black jeans that hugged his muscular legs. A white v-neck sweater that fit him like a second skin caressing over his ribbed torso and black converse trainers. His clothes complimented his long wavy black hair that rippled down his back, like the ocean at night. Tonight he wore it back with a black satin ribbon, tie at his nape. Within his strong angular face were a set of deep blue eyes. Eyes like the deepest ocean. He smiled to himself, ‘now it begins’, he thought.
