It is through life’s experiences we learn to prepare for our future. What is discouraging about this process is that it is not black and white, nor does it come with an instruction manual; life is full of many grey areas, which cause us to react and respond accordingly. Life is cultivated by uncertainty and constant change, which offers several chances, if we are lucky, to correct our mistakes along the way. We are all blessed with a past and a future; that’s God’s will. But if we take a second to stop and examine our present state, and reflect on our past, then and only then can we better prepare for the future. I have learned a great deal about myself from following this very principle. For every tomorrow there is a yesterday, which means we all have a past. Do not be afraid of what you left behind; use it as a tool to help you get where you are going. As I examined my past in all of its splendid mistakes, with a multitude of failures and disappointments, it gave me hope.
You see, life is an excellent teacher. I realized that my past did not have to dictate my future, yet it would help me to learn, grow, and move towards my destiny.

About the Author
Lisa Young lives in Chester, VA, and is an Associate Professor of Business Management. She has a bachelor of science degree in Organizational Management, an MBA in management, and a PhD in Organizational Managment with a specialization in Management Education. Young has two children, Danielle, and Tyrone.
