The Mirage of Human Rights introduces the subject of human rights principles in an interesting vivid fashion outlining not only their benefits and positive impact on humanity, but also their inherent pitfalls. We are made aware of how each human right can be used honorably for the good of the many and selfishly for the good of the few.
The author crates a story that takes place in the Dixon home where the three children engage with their parents in an in-depth study of our human and God-given rights. Their interactions and relationship serve to remind us of a time when the model family provided a stronger foundation for our developing youth. Family member roles were clear and unity and respect were of utmost importance. Our imaginary family here clearly has espoused the ways of an era long ago and has maintained its integrity in the midst of all the peer influences and technological advancements.
The format of the book allows us to read it from start to finish giving us a wonderful historical outline of the evolution and development of our human rights throughout history. However, it is also very adaptable and permits us to enter the life of the family at any given point or chapter to discover more on a particular human right issue of interest to us.

About the Book
Henry and Sophia Dixon are a bit surprised when their three children—sixteen-year-old Andrew, fourteen-year-old Mary, and twelve-year-old Greco—want to replace their typical evening bedtime story with a discussion of human rights principles. Henry is a math teacher, and he isn’t sure he can add much to the discussions. But he is determined to help his children understand the underpinnings of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Each night, the family gathers in the living room and listens as Mr. and Mrs. Dixon try to help their kids understand the world we live in today against the backdrop of human rights principles. From the Bill of Rights and other constitutional amendments to national and world politics, the lessons the Dixons provide explore vital elements in the formation and the running of the United States. Using a wide array of examples, Henry and Sophia present the human rights principles, their benefits, and their inherent pitfalls to their eager audience.
Through the interactions of the fictional Dixon family, The Mirage of Human Rights presents an in-depth study—an historical outline of the evolution of and development of human beings’ God-given rights. ELIAS C. HILL is a retired industrial engineer who has traveled extensively throughout the world, observing and studying human rights issues and their impact on various societies. He currently lives in Antigua, Guatemala.
