“What do we do now?’ he asked.
The first man walked out to the kitchen and returned with a pair of rubber kitchen gloves. He looked at his young partner who was wide-eyed. He chuckled to himself. He pulled out a large hunting knife. “We get our stuff.” He said looking him in the eyes.
He went over to the girl’s body; her lifeless eyes were staring at the ceiling. He opened the front of her shirt with a sharp pull that tore the buttons off. He pulled her pants down a little after slitting the waistline with his knife. He then plunged the knife into her abdomen just below her bra and sliced open down to her groin. A little blood, which had not yet coagulated, drained into the tub. He pulled her small intestines out of the wound and felt along their length with his gloved hands. At the end near the colon he made a cut and retrieved five small blue packets and one that was red. He tossed them to his partner. “Fourteen left.”
He then opened the colon. The smell of shit filled the room. His partner started to retch. Wimp, he thought, where have all the good dealers gone. He chuckled to himself as he remembered again he placed a few in their graves. He went back to his work and found the remaining packets. A red one was broken, oh well, that was the one filled with cocaine that killed her. At least the more valuable heroin packets were intact. He still had her $2,000 in his pocket to make up for part of it.

About the Book
In the sequel to Burnt Offerings, Brian Fogerty has left his life in Philadelphia and retired to Florida. His attempts at starting anew have gone nowhere. He wonders what to do next.
He agrees to help out a friend at a burn center in Miami. He is able to once again enjoy life and lift himself out of his burnt out state of mind by performing surgery. He is able to suppress the ghosts of his past, his wife’s murder and friend’s betrayal. Brian is even able to start a relationship again with Vivian, a pharmaceutical representative, at the hospital.
However, as his life improves, new dangers come to him. He becomes entangled in a drug smuggling ring, which threatens his life. He must keep himself one step ahead to protect himself and those he cares about or lose everything dear to him.
About the Author
William Hughes earned a bachelor of science degree from the University of Scranton and a medical degree from Temple University Medical School. He opened a burn unit at Temple University Hospital where he is currently the medical director. His other books are The Essential Burn Unit Handbook and Burnt Offerings. He resides in Moorestown, New Jersey, with his wife and two sons.
