If I Can't Be At Your Feet

Lake Michigan is a majestically inviting, seemingly endless body of water that should be on everyone’s travel plans at some point in time. I remember I sat in the backseat as usual, for the entire trip, so the sunshine could heat my bones. I sniffed the air ninety miles a minute as the boat glided through the water. It is not uncommon for Mom and Dad to find me on the stern of the boat with my paws hanging over the side, and ears flapping in the wind, enjoying the world passing me by. Now this is living! Happy stayed under the helm beside Dad’s feet so she could feel secure as possible until she could get back to land. The trip was uneventful in terms of the weather—seventy-five degrees temperature and plentiful sunshine—with waves of one foot or less. It was an absolutely perfect summer day to go boating.

Once we settled into Sergeant Marina, we decided to explore our destination of Saugatuck. First, we played Frisbee in the park to help all of us burn a little energy before strolling through Saugatuck’s lively streets. Then, the four of us walked through the quaint town lined with cute shops, intriguing galleries, fun bars, and amazing smelling restaurants. I didn’t miss a beat weaving in and out of the oodles and oodles of people lining the streets on a busy summer afternoon. Saugatuck is a large tourist destination in the summer with its absolutely beautiful location on Lake Michigan. I was happy to interact with all of these new friends whereas Happy was bothered by the large numbers of people walking close to her. I approached as many people as I could, wagged my tail, and made them smile before I moved on to my next possible buddies. My philosophy: make the world better one wag at a time!
