Mary Francis Colt, a secretary for the public defender, is brutally murdered by Bonelle Jackson. She was abducted from her office in Lakeview, Florida in hopes that Bonelle’s two sons would be released from prison. When one of the boys is killed in an escape attempt, she kills Mary Francis touching off a huge man hunt for them. Benjamin Goldman is the owner of a hardware store in Lakeview and his son, Benji, becomes involved in the murder when he and his friend, Charlie Pepper, find the body of Junebug Black off the shore of an island in Lake Harris named Monkey Island. The story is further complicated by the fact that the twelve year old Benji fall in love with April Colt, Mary Francis’ daughter, and the fact that he likes to spin yarns about his adventures that eventually get he and Charlie into trouble. The story is also about growing up on a small southern town that has a combination of action, romance, comedy, and at times, graphic violence. It will definitely keep you on your seat until the last page.

Mary Francis Colt loved her job working as a secretary for John Fulton, public defender. For a girl growing up in Lakeview, a small Florida town in the turbulent 1960s, it was a solid opportunity for a better life. Mary Francis dreamed of bigger and better things. But that all comes crashing down when she is kidnapped by Bonelle Jackson, the irrational and dangerous mother of two men her boss helped sent to jail. When their mother’s plot to break them out of jail is foiled and one of the sons is killed by police, Bonelle brutally murders the innocent Mary Francis and abandons her mutilated body in the swamps. Soon, law enforcement officials are hot on the manhunt for the escaped convicts and their murderous mother. Benji Goldman and Charlie Pepper become involved when they discover the body of Junebug Black floating in the water off of Monkey Island in Lake Harris. Now they must determine if these two murders related—before another person winds up dead.
About the Author
Thom Weekley was born in 1948 in Leesburg, Florida. After thirty-four years as a teacher, he retired and worked at a hardware store. He lives with Linda, his wife, and Bryndl, his cat, in the same house he grew up in. He is a Mason and a Shriner and enjoys photography.
