A Silent Cry

Sliding quietly from under the comforter, Josie padded barefoot into the office across the hallway where Brian kept his liquor. Splashing one finger of the amber liquid into a glass, she raised it to her lips and threw it down her throat in one motion. Immediately, she felt the rush of heat in her bloodstream. Refilling the glass, she raised her hand to take another sip when the creak of a floorboard sounded behind her. “You better watch drinking that stuff neat on an empty stomach,” a voice admonished. At the sound of the voice, she turned her head to check out the man lounging against the doorframe. Clad only in his silk boxers, the sight of his muscular chest visible in the light from the window made the heat settle low in the pit of her stomach. The man was altogether too sexy. “You forget I was raised by a father who has a penchant for single malt,” Josie reminded him. “Did I wake you, G-man?” “No, nature called. Is that dream keeping you awake?” “Yes. I can’t seem to shake the feeling that time is running out for this woman and I should be doing something to help.” “Have you thought about checking the missing persons’ website?” “No but that is half a good idea. I’ll use the facial recognition system to sketch out a close facsimile of her features and run a search.”
