Greenie’s Path

Here is the letter she wrote my mother the day she gave me up: “Mr. & Mrs. Greenfield, there are a few things I'd like you to know, if I didn't mention it to you before. I want to thank you for helping me out, for if you hadn't I would had to tell my father and hurt him terribly. I know that David will have both parents, instead of only one, as it would have been if I made Gordon marry me just for David's sake, for I know it would have ended in divorce, for I'd never would have been able to trust him. When David gets older, I hope he'll understand that I wanted him to have the things I never had. For my parents are divorced and I found it very hard living with only one parent at a time. Also I think he'll find out that it is very hard for any mother to give up her child for a mother's love is the deepest kind. I pray he won't hate me. Gordon is Dutch and Irish. He's six-two and weighs two hundred forty, and David is the picture of him, so you'll have a big boy on your hands. I'm Ukranian and nothing else. You know what I look like. If you ever find cause to reach me, Dr. Milar had my address. I pray to god that I've done the right thing. God bless my son always for me. David's mother.
