One weekend, when I went home to my parent’s house, I sat down at their kitchen table and had a good cry. After many tears and several hours of soul-searching, I decided that I was going to leave my first husband and move back to my hometown to start a new chapter in my life. The only request I had from my parents was that they not tell me “we told you so.” Neither one of my parents had really liked my first husband and had tried to discourage me from marrying him in the first place. But I was young and had been in love and that was all that mattered at the time.

She details her early college days, her painful divorce at the age of thirty, her journey to graduate school, and the pain of long-distance relationships.
Kathy shares how she met the love of her life, David, whom she married in October of 2001. After struggling with infertility, Kathy became pregnant in 2004. Even as they rejoiced, their joy was overshadowed by David’s health problems. When they discovered that David had cancer, Kathy wondered how she would survive—yet survive she did.
Through long months and years, Kathy worked through life’s challenges to create a new “normal” life for herself and her family—and succeeded. Life’s Journey is a moving testament to the strength of the human spirit.
About the Author
Kathy Herzog has a BA in Elementary Education and a minor in English. Herzog lives with her husband, Ryan; her daughter, Anna; and their dog, Brandi, in Plymouth, Wisconsin.
