June: Tempered Steel, the second volume of author June Holroyd’s memoirs, continues where the first volume, Roots of Steel, finished. This volume picks up in the 1950s, including recollections of her career and her family life over the years. Holroyd describes her intriguing life in intimate and amusing detail, tracing her path through the present day.
About the Author
June Holroyd was born in England in 1926 into a Sheffield steel family. Her school was evacuated during the war to the Lake District. She earned her architecture degree in 1949 and worked in London from 1949 to 1952. She worked briefly at Harvard and in Chicago, Illinois, 1952–54. Returning to London, she restored a 1670 Nicholas Hawkesmoor house in Greenwhich; later, she won a design competition for Lewisham Town Hall. A resident of Santa Barbara, California, since 1972, she is married with four children and nine grandchildren.
