When Mitchell had to leave Saturday morning, Annie clung to him, sobbing so that she could hardly talk. “Please don’t go, Daddy. I don’t want you to go. Please don’t go.” We all went out to his car, hoping she would let go of him. But I finally had to pick her up and take her back upstairs where she continued crying for some time. There were no dry eyes—Suzanne, John and I were all crying as I was sure Mitchell was. He had given her a little toy, a Furbie—a silly little creature which talked. It was the current “must have” toy, and he gave it to her an hour before he left. She went back upstairs, got her blanket and her Furbie and lay down on the floor. She held onto Furbie as the involuntary sobbing slowly subsided.

About the Book
Kate Kerr’s autobiography takes us through her life’s journey from being an Illinois farm girl to a professional woman. She struggles to overcome her negative view of herself through her marriage, motherhood, and divorce. With the help of psychoanalysis and after earning her doctorate in marriage and family therapy, Kate emerges with a new appreciation of her self-worth and potential. In Tallahassee, she meets a man, John Kerr, who will become the love of her life, her soul mate, and her husband. Tragically, John is diagnosed with colon cancer; he dies eighteen months later ending their marriage of twenty-six years. Alone and without John, Kate finds life has changed dramatically. She grieves, then confronts her feelings. Seeking and finding happiness through friends, family and new pursuits, she emerges once again.
About the Author
Kate Kerr retired as a clinical psychologist after more than thirty years in private practice and lives in Tallahassee, Florida. At eighty-five, she is active in her church, participates in OLLI at FSU, loves gardening, reading, and being involved with her family and friends. She has two grown children and four grandchildren.
