Near daybreak on the 19th of October 2008, Marlow experienced his second wolf dream. This dream started off pleasant and in color. Puff and Sparrow were sitting on the kitchen table looking out the window at his back yard. The grass was green, the sky a crystal blue, and his neighbor’s maple tree leaves a brilliant red. Then the cat’s ears picked up and they were quite concerned. Harold looked out the window and realized why his cats were frantic. They saw a fox sitting beside his veggie garden. The fox was out of breath and panting. In a heartbeat, his dream turned murky and black. The skies then became overcast. Leaves fell from the trees and the grass turned brown. A single snowflake fell onto the nose of the fox - then another and another. In seconds, Marlow’s back yard was covered with snow. The landscape was pure white. Then he heard the howl of a wolf. Marlow saw a fourth wolf running with three wolves trying to catch the young female fox along the residential pathways of Fox Hollow. This black wolf was sending mental commands to the other wolves. He was clearly the alpha male and soon veered off from the pack and hid beneath the cottonwoods and willows of Antelope Creek. His master plan was about to be acted out. In Marlow’s dream, the fourth wolf viewed the kill and molestation of little Sue Milan by the three other wolves. Then the wolf changed into human form. At the end of this dream sequence, Marlow saw the image of a black man walking from the kill site to a SUV at the Fox Hollow Supermarket parking lot and drive off. His dream then fragmented into nonsensical avenues.

In October 2008 in the quiet town Lincoln, Nebraska, nothing seems out of the ordinary—until ten-year-old Sue Milan suddenly disappears from a football party full of guests who all know each other. When her body is discovered near Antelope Creek the next morning, the town is thrown into an uproar, and everyone wants answers to the same question: Who killed Sue Milan? Local police waste no time in making the Milan murder a priority case, but all they have to go on is that the little girl was last seen eating pizza during halftime with a group of other children. Without a motive for the killing, police inspector Pete Jackson is desperate for leads and discreetly calls on his longtime friend and private investigator, Harold Marlow, to help solve the case. As Marlow’s investigation leads him to surmise that something was amiss between Sue and another member of the gathering, the police suddenly crack the case. But lingering doubts about the true killer remain in Marlow’s psyche, and he soon realizes that it is up to him to solve one of the most important crimes in the history of Nebraska—before a child molester can once again impose his wrath on an innocent victim.

Henry Mount, President of Meckobb Enterprises, has published over fifty scientific articles in various journals as well as a nonfiction novel and a collection of stories from his youth. He and his wife live in Lincoln, Nebraska, where he enjoys reading Hemingway novels and listening to the Rolling Stones.
