About the Author

‘Mick’ Back When Mick was born in Glouster, a small coal mining town in southern Ohio and moved from there at the age of five, to Lima, in the northern area of the State. At the age of six Mick attended a grade school called Faurot, which was a large house donated to the school board by Mr. Faurot, who was a prominent business man in Lima. Graduating from there, Mick went to Junior and Senior High at Lima Central High, which was a long walk each day, but in those days, he thought nothing of it. At the end of tenth grade, Mick became bored with the mundane, everyday style of life and took a devious manner of seeing and gaining a knowledge of the outside world. With no money to pay for traveling, he rode the railroad freight cars, along with the hobos, across the states, to search for and see those far away places. Finally, with his fill of riding the rails and traveling to distant places, Mick married and settled down to work at various jobs in Lima, Still something urged him to travel on, so he moved to Michigan, where he and his wife Betty operated a fishing resort in Michigan. After a lot of hard work; building and renovating the resort, Mick still had that strong urge to move on, so they left Michigan, to move to Bryan, Ohio, where he managed a Sporting Goods Store. Mick and Betty built the Sporting Goods Store, to where it was doing a lucrative business, but the owner was forced to sell out to a large Chain of Sporting Goods Stores. Leaving Bryan Mick moved back to Lima, Ohio, where he started a wholesale business and manufactured various items to sell As his business grew, he had spare time in the evenings, so he accepted an offer from a man named Tex, who was a professional gambler and needed some one, who was a local to help him with the operation of a Casino, in Lima. Mick took the job and with Tex’s help, he quickly learned the gambling trade and became very adept at dealing on the dice table, operating the roulette wheel and dealing the game of blackjack. Then after working for a number of gamblers, in their Casinos, Mick finally took over the gambling business in Lima and several adjoining counties. Back in those days, when the ‘Heat’ came on and the gambling was closed for a period of time, until things cooled down, Mick would go to the Florida Keys for a vacation. Mick was so enamored with Key Largo that he vowed to move there someday.
