The whole stadium roared. “Hughes is at the 15, the 12, he is gone, can’t catch him today! Touchdown Pirates!” Pirates fans were screaming and jumping. The opponents’ fans were hanging their heads and punching their palms. “The extra point is…GOOD, making the score to 50 to 47.” The Pirates have won this ball game!”
As the breathless fans, still celebrating, began departing, Mallory and Didi recapped a couple of the highlights as they packed up their bags. “I guess you really can cap off that college fund now, huh?” Mallory said, congratulating Didi.
Didi looked at her for a moment. “Yes,” she whispered. “I will have to have my lawyer update that part of the language in the divorce settlement.” Didi slid on her backpack, turned to take Jasmine’s and Meredith’s hands, and began walking toward the stadium steps.
Mallory stood with her jaw dropped for a moment. She snapped up her bag and checked to see that Alexi, who had attached herself to Jocelyn, and the other children were close and following. Brandon and Kaleb were walking with Ian.
They all made it down the escalator from the upper deck of the stadium and were in the open area with the children walking a few feet in front. Mallory finally spoke. “Didi, you’re getting a divorce?”
Didi looked at her, lifted her eyebrows, and then looked away. “I’m an unassuming person, Mallory. I’m not beautiful and I’m not glamorous, but I like myself just fine.” She looked at Mallory again and flashed a smile. “And I’m not stupid either. Dale has been having an affair for over a year, maybe longer. I suspected it for months, and last month I finally hired someone to follow him and get proof.”

Didi stood by her man while raising their five children, but has she cheated herself by enduring his cheating? Ellen the veteran has played the game well at the cost of hiding serious skeletons in the closet.

Marilynn H. Rison serves as principal editor for Write For You Now writing and editing services (writeforyounow.com). She is a writer, actor, and choreographer, and was awarded by the International Film and TV Festival of New York for documentary production. She has taught college communication courses, launched and directed praise dance ministries in several states, and serves as executive artist of Praisedust Productions. She also lives a natural healthy lifestyle. Marilynn has been a football coach’s wife for more than 30 years and currently lives in North Carolina with her husband. They have two adult daughters.
