Do you remember what it felt like when you first came to know Jesus as ‘your’ personal Savior, how your face shined with a type of glory, how you could not get that middle school grin off your face, how you could not get enough of the Bible, or how you told everyone you knew about Jesus whether they wanted to hear of not. Take just a moment and close your eyes and allow your mind’s eye to take you back to that time. I would guess that right now you have that silly grin back on your face and that tingle in your heart like the first time you feel in love. Do you remember? What possibly has happened that caused you to look up and not feel the power of God’s presence as you once did in your life? Whatever this process was it must have been gradual in nature and either deceived you or found a method to draw you away from the presence of God, as you would never willingly turn your back on Him. Let us take a few moments and look at some possible scenarios and see if any of these sound familiar to what has happened in your life. Therefore, the Olive Principle is: you were created to have a purpose in your physical and spiritual lives; God uses the many temporary events in your life to promote growth (cultivating-watering-nourishing-pruning) to bring you to a place of maturity. With maturity comes the joy of the farmer to see us bearing fruit and a celebration of harvest. The result of the harvest is that the fruit will surrender itself to being crushed, your [“I”] wants and desires coming second to God’s desires, in order to release the anointing (gifting with purpose) which has been developing within it. The oil (gifting with purpose) is then ready to be sent all around the world with the farmer’s label (gospel of Jesus) on it to be used for the very purposes for which it was determined.

About the Author
Daniel R. Dorey is a minister and holds a master of arts degree in theology. He has served as a children’s pastor and associate pastor and now serves in the pastoral care ministry at Cornerstone Church, Grove, Oklahoma. Dorey lives with his wife, Shelly, and their children in the Grand Lake area of northeastern Oklahoma.
