From Hopeless And Helpless To Healing

Everything seemed to be going well in Greg's life with his job, his new baby and his new home, but around the baby's second birthday, it was becoming apparent that something was wrong. He had not yet begun to talk, not even saying the simple words that babies say, and he always seemed to want to be left alone. He didn't like to be held and cuddled, as most children do, and when he would hurt himself, instead of running to mommy or daddy for consolation, he would run in the opposite direction and would have to be caught and held down to assess where or how badly he was hurt. We all kept hoping and believing that he was just slow in speaking and just liked to play alone. His dad was always a content baby and would play for hours by himself, and so, concern turned to acceptance, and acceptance gave us hope that he would reach his potential soon. However, our concerns became the greatest fear we could ever have imagined when the doctor diagnosed our precious, beautiful baby with autism. The devastation that filled our family was overwhelming, our joy turning to tears and our hopes into helplessness when we were told that medical science does not know what causes autism and there is no cure. What were we going to do? It was then that I realized, in perhaps my darkest hour, that my only hope was with God, since I believed He knew what caused this terrible life sentence that our baby had been given, and certainly, He could cure it. Thus began my faithwalk with God that would sustain me thgouth so many trails and tribulations that still lay ahead.
