America was founded in a unique manner with strong principles and rose to be a world leader in every way. This nation was never intended to meld into some idealistically simplistic global entity that would eventually fall along with the weaker nations. We are a nation that other nations desired to emulate. If we pursue the course that many in power desire and endeavor to become part of a global governance alliance then America will become only as strong as the weakest link in that global chain of nations. We must remain the leader or we may likely fall with other nations. We should encourage, demand and promote a political climate where politicians campaign and are elected based on an outline of what their issues and beliefs are, not what innuendos and accusations are levied against them by their opponent or the media. Constantly learn to recognize innuendos and spin and separate them from fact. Personal and ad homonym attacks diminish politicians, their parties and the process. The founding fathers accepted personal, individual responsibility for putting their reputation, good name and future on a document embracing liberty. Personal responsibility should always be striven for from the time children are old enough to understand the concept until they become adults and throughout their lives. These qualities are instilled and promoted by organizations such as scouting, 4H, FFA and the military. They are also instilled by examples. We need to overcome the seductive process of believing that no matter what happens to us there is someone else accountable and someone to sue. Actions have consequences. Consequences must be accepted and used as life’s experience and part of the personal growth process. America needs a government that we can rely on, not one we have to depend on.

About the Book
From Truman to the 21st Century details personal observations of significant historical events and the impact of these events on our culture during the second half of the 20th century and the threshold of the 21st century. The content is based on actual events, the presidents in office during the events and how their leadership impacted America culturally and politically. A biography of the presidents in power since 1948 as well as a brief biography of the signers of The Constitution provide a historical context. Several topics including religion, education, the press and immigration are dealt with from both historical and observational perspectives. Quotes from the founding fathers and various presidents will also provide insight.
About the Author
JON EDWARDS is a musician, artist and author residing in Northeast Oklahoma. Jon comes from a literary family. His mother, Cecile Pepin Edwards, wrote many biographies for Houghton Mifflin Publishing, providing Jon with the inspiration to do research, a familiarity with the writing and editing business along with the desire to continue the family legacy in the literary field. After writing and publishing several fiction books over the past decade, From Truman to the 21st Century is Jon’s first non-fiction work. A compelling conviction to pass on personal experiences and the history of the second half of the twentieth century in an objective format became the motivation for the book. When he’s not writing, performing or painting Jon enjoys riding his motorcycle throughout the Ozarks and around historic Route 66.
