As the evening wore on, one particular dancer caught Edward’s eye; a young raven haired beauty that did not dance with the same guy all the time. Her long dark hair swept from side to side as she danced, flowing below her shoulders, full, faintly colored lips in a beautiful smile, except when doing the Tango. Then, she was very serious, and danced with an erotic passion, her dark eyes flashing as she and her partner twisted, spun, and abruptly changed direction. He just couldn’t take his eyes off her.
The girl had noticed his fascination with her, and on occasion their eyes would lock; hers a dark brown, his a pale blue, but he always looked away.
Edward’s heart almost stopped beating when, in between dances, this raven haired beauty came over to the table and looked him straight in the eyes. She held out her hand. “Come,” she said simply.

About the Book
It’s early December when sixteen-year-old Edward Paige leans out of the train window and bids his parents farewell. Bound for London, then the south of France where he will join his first ship as a deck apprentice, Edward is about to become a man of the sea. Edward has had a yearning to go to sea for as long as he can remember. As he embarks on his adventure, he has one goal - to become an officer in the British Merchant Navy.
After finishing cadet school, where the learning curve is steep and the life lessons are plentiful, Edward soon receives his first glimpse of the Mediterranean as he arrives in Marseilles, France.
On an adventure marked not only by hardship but also joy, Edward’s travels take him to the North Sea, the Baltic, the angry North Atlantic, the Caribbean, and the South Atlantic - but it is the night he spends with a beautiful woman in Buenos Aires that will change his life forever.
In this coming-of-age tale, Edward battles the sea, the weather, and his own emotions as he enters into manhood.
About the Author
DAVID E.C. READ was born in an English fishing port, and, like his father and grandfather before him, soon developed a passion for the sea that led him to a lengthy career as a Navigating Offi cer and Master Mariner in the British Merchant Navy. He currently resides with his family in Ontario, Canada.
